I'm working on the next chapter of My Lioness, I'm almost done with it and should be posting it sometime this coming week. I am planning on continuing My Lioness, I won't abandon it.
I'm in the Dragon Age Keep, so there are Spoilers ahead. Don't look if you don't want to see it.
So, we learned that per canon hundreds died when Anders blew up the Chantry. And then the whole fandom apparently exploded. People going on and on about Anders the terrorist, and how he's the worst villian in the whole of Thedas and blah, blah, blah. Let's take a step back for a moment and really think about this shall we?
For starters just think about the most simple: Your Warden is a mass murderer. How many people did you kill across Ferelden? All, supposedly, for a good cause. But, nonetheless you killed probably thousands of people. You chose sides in conflict after conflict possibly condemning the otherside to death. You did what you needed to, regardless of how unsavory, to save the people of Ferelden.
Loghain let the King of Ferelden die, let most of the army die and innumerable conscripts, not to mention all of the Grey Wardens. He started a civil war, sold elves into slavery, condoned torture, hired an assassin and tried to usurp the throne from his own daughter. And while he gives lip service to doing all of this in order to protect Ferelden he is destroying it, letting the Darkspawn roam the countryside murdering the people of Ferelden. So, he let's kings, nobles, and peasants all be killed, so what was he really protecting?
Then you have Isabela, she got the city of Kirkwall destroyed, the Viscount killed, a lot of the city guards killed, Templars murdered, an entire group of young mages murdered, and pulled Hawke into the middle of all of this death and destruction, and for what? Just to protect her own ass. No noble causes, no trying to do right. She got the city destroyed just to protect her own ass.
And what about your Hawke? How many people did your Hawke kill? I'd be willing to bet it was in the thousands, for small causes and large ones, and even for no causes at all other than to put a few coins in Hawke's pockets.
And don't get me started on Merrill and her clan.
Yet, the man who stands up after he and people like him suffer literally a millenia of oppression and abuse, being segregated, locked up and having their minds literally rendered asunder, being hunted down for nothing more than being born, and ripped from their families. After a millenia of having nothing change, nothing improve no matter what solutions had been tried. He's the worst villian? Really? He's a terrorist because of one action, for trying to free his people through the only avenue he sees left after a millenia of other failed attempts.
Get off your high horses darlings, there is no one in the Dragon Age Universe that we meet that doesn't have blood on their hands, our own characters included. Anders is no less or more culpable than Isabela, and at least he has a far better reason to do what he did. I don't think he is blameless, but I also think that he did what he felt he had to. And perhaps I'm in the minority, but I agree with him and his actions, even while I abhor violence. There was absolutely no evidence whatsoever that anything could or would change without taking drastic measures.
Just my two cents.
